Analysis: Upland won a big one last week, 17-14 over Rancho Cucamonga that enabled Upland to tie Rancho Cucamonga for the Baseline League championship. Los Alamitos beat Edison 21-10 last week to finish 5-0 in the Sunset League. Los Alamitos senior tight end Davon Mitchell (6-4, 245) did not play against Edison because of a turf toe injury. Griffins coach Ray Fenton indicated that Mitchell could be back for the playoffs. Los Alamitos senior quarterback Alonza Esparza has passed for 2,196 yards and 23 touchdowns. The Griffins employ a variety of running backs. Whether it’s Lenny Ibarra or Anthony League or Jerod Terry carrying the ball it’s a productive situation. The Los Alamitos defense is a quick and hard-hitting group. Los Alamitos is a Division 2 championship contender and will show why.
